Remember those box hair dye days that you would get from department stores? Before the cruelty-free movement started, you were at the mercy of whatever stores and salons had on hand. Fortunately, the times have changed for the better and there are several cruelty-free and vegan hair dye brands now a days. When you go to the salon, you can check to see if they are using a 100% cruelty-free brand. Some of these brands are also available to purchase for at-home dye as well!
Any brand listed as cruelty-free on Free The Bunnies has absolutely no ties to animal testing, including the parent company, and cannot sell in stores in China. You can read more about the Free The Bunnies standard here.

Pravana and Paul Mitchell are the most popular hair dye brands that I’ve seen professional salons use. Just ask your local hair salon if they use these brands to make sure they use cruelty-free hair dye before getting your hair done. 🙂 My hair salon also uses Morrocanoil and Amika so their styling products are cruelty-free as well. I’m extremely glad that getting your hair professionally done can be done using cruelty-free products; so much has changed over the last few years!
