Elemis is a luxury skincare brand known for their commitment to skin wellness and clinically-tested skincare results. The beauty brand is sold in the US at Ulta and Sephora and many other stores worldwide. I first learned about Elemis in 2016 and have loved their products ever since (when I could afford them).
However, is Elemis cruelty-free in 2022?
No.
In 2019, Elemis was acquired by L’occitane, which is a parent company that supports animal testing. Since the acquisition, Elemis has not been 100% cruelty-free and was removed from the Cruelty-Free Brands List. At Free The Bunnies, if a brand is owned by a parent company that tests on animals, it is not considered a 100% cruelty-free brand. You can read more about that here.
In addition to the acquisition, Elemis products have also expanded into stores in mainland China, putting the products at risk for post-market animal testing. So unfortunately, Elemis is not a cruelty-free brand at all.
How do you feel about the acquisition and expansion into China? Let me know in the comments below.
