During the summer of 2018, Ulta announced that they were welcoming a new prestige cosmetics brand Flesh Cosmetics, where the brand will be “redefining the notion of what flesh color really is.” Flesh Cosmetics is highly known for their 40 different shades of foundation, in stick packaging. In addition to foundation, Flesh Cosmetics has highlighters, lipsticks and blush. Their entire line is created with the idea that these products will compliment a wide variety of skin tones, instead of the small window some other cosmetic lines gear towards.
From the glimpse of it, Flesh Cosmetics sounds like it is a well-reputable brand that wants to target as many types of skin tones as possible, rather than just the “popular” ones. At first, I was extremely excited to hear that a new prestige cosmetics line with such variety was going to hit the Ulta stores. However, a big question yet to be answered is: Is Flesh Cosmetics cruelty-free??
Is Flesh Cosmetics Cruelty-Free?
There isn’t a lot of information on Flesh Cosmetics regarding their stance on animal testing, which could mean that they are too new and haven’t been focused on releasing that information. Or, it could mean that they 100% aren’t cruelty-free and aren’t too worried about it. Flesh Cosmetics being a prestige line, I initially assumed it would be cruelty-free since so many other new prestige lines are making that a primary goal.
Well, one thing is for sure, is that Flesh Cosmetics is a prestige brand, yet it is a sister company to Revlon, who 100% does test on animals, and sells in China. Revlon is responsible for the launch of the Flesh Cosmetics line, which means that Flesh Cosmetics is not 100% cruelty-free by the Free The Bunnies standard, since it is owned by a parent company that tests on animals.
